History of the Forum
 
The Forum was created in September 1986. in France on suggestion by Norman Rich and was based in the Department of Surgery at USUHS. Norman Rich was the first secretary, and Daniel P. Rignault was the first president.
Under the tutelage of ISS, the first Forum's session was at ISS Meeting in Toronto in 1988.

In the beginning, Norman Rich and Daniel Rignault planned to built a “structure” where military surgeons from different countries could share their experiences in war surgery, but to be more modest and start, not a Society but a Forum which became part of the International Society of Surgery.
In the end of 2013. APIMSF is registered as an official society with the head office in ZAGREB, Croatia.
